Participation Gifts – New to the Oireachtas this year each dancer in the solo competitions will be receiving a participation gift.
Lobby Parties – Come and join the fun on Friday and Saturday night in the lobby of the Marriott. Food concessions will be
provided in the old JW’s Restaurant on the Mezzanine Level, overlooking the lobby.
Mass – Mass will be held on Saturday evening in the Liberty Ballroom at 5pm. The Liberty Ballroom is located across the air
walk in the Marriott Towers. Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Brian Frain, who is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Local church mass schedule: St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 21 South 13th Street (between Market and Chestnut Street); phone (215) 563-4145. Sunday mass times: 8:30am, 10:30am, 12:30pm and 6:00pm. Basilica SS Peter and Paul on 18th and Ben Franklin Parkway. Sunday mass times: 8:00am, 9:30am, 11:00am, 12:15am, and 5:00pm.
Awards – There are two awards ceremonies this year. Presentation of awards will be on Ballroom A stage and Ballroom C stage.
A list of competitions awarded in each ballroom is listed below, it will be included in the journal, and will also be posted on the 5th
floor outside the ballrooms each day. To ensure the safety of all our dancers and families, all aisles will need to be kept clear at all
times. The first three center rows will be reserved for teachers and adjudicators. Sitting on the floor will not be permitted. Dancers
in particular competitions will be called up side stage prior to the announcement of results. We ask for everyone’s cooperation with
the running of results this year.
PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT the order in which the awards will be awarded. The order will be decided upon before the award
ceremonies begin and the order will be announced in each ballroom.

Mid-Atlantic Members and Parents:
We have been getting some questions regarding the Marriott room reservations. I contacted the Marriott and their response is as follows:
There were several faxes that we could not read. Everyone was asked to hold on to their confirmation if there was a problem. Parents are to call in house reservations at 215-625-6139 after 10 days. They will be asked to resend their form along with the fax confirmation. Please be sure that everyone understands that if they sent a fax and they have the confirmation their reservation will be honored.
Many parents did not wait 10 days to contact the Marriott regarding their reservations and are not getting the proper answers. It seems that the message boards - once again - are starting rumors and panic. If the above does not work, please tell your parents to contact the Mid-Atlantic committe directly - MAROireachtas@aol.com

Reservations: Teachers block opens Monday, September 15, forms were emailed to all members.
Parents block opens Monday, September 29 and the forms will be posted on the Mid-
Atlantic web site before that date. There was some confusion about the eFax system. This
is the system that the Marriott uses, you only need to have access to a regular fax machine.
This system elivates the busy signal that have caused everyone in the past to to stand by
their fax machine waiting. You will only need to send the fax once. Retain your fax
confirmation sheet as verification in case any problems arise.
The Marriott Courtyard is the official overflow hotel for the 2008 MAR Oireachtas. The
Courtyard will be accepting phone reservations ONLY and will open on Wednesday, October
8, 2008 at 9am. The phone number is 1-888-887-8130. Room prices for the Courtyard are
the same as the Marriott - King $119; Double $136.

Oireachtas Schedule: The schedule will be posted before the parent block opens.

Parent Volunteer Forms: Each dancing school (with entries) is required to have 5 parent volunteers during the
Oireachtas weekend. The form is posted on the website, please download a copy and

Entry Packets For 2008 Oireachtas: This year entry packets WILL NOT be sent by US Mail. Teachers will be able to download
the entry packs via the INSTEP'S website- www.instepfm.com

Rules regarding team competitions for the 2008 MAR Oireachtas: Each dancing school is only allowed to enter ONE 4-hand per age group. And a dancer
may only compete in ONE 4-hand (does not apply to the Adult competitions) NO limit on
8-hands entered per school; however, if a child is entered in an 8-hand they are not able
to dance in a 4-hand and vice versa. Dancers entered in 8-hands are allowed to dance in
their own age group or the age group higher. The 4-hand dance for the 2008 Oireachtas
is Humours of Bandon (lead, body, first figure top couple, body) jig music can be played
instead of the Humours tune. 8-hands will perform 1st figure.

Senior Ladies/Mens Dances for the 2008 MAR Oireachtas: Senior Ladies are doing the Slip Jig/Jig and Hornpipe set.
Senior Men are doing thr Reel/Hornpipe and Jig set.

only need to be sent ONCE, a confirmation email will be sent directly to your email address.
